There are a ton of good file manager apps available for Android, but one app that has remained the popular choice is ES File Explorer. Thanks to its great features and zero price, the app has remained at the top of the hill, but as we've learned, free isn't always good. Various reports have been reported by ES File Explorer after late addition of spyware on devices. It is not confirmed. But makes us skeptical. Luckily, there are several other file manager apps that are a good alternative. Here are the best alternatives to ES File Explorer for Android.

Best Alternatives to ES File Explorer

ASTRO File Manager

Astro File Explorer is a free application. On top of that, it's a great package that gives you great flexibility in how you view your files.

Astro lets you copy, move, and delete files the way you want, but one of its extra features is the ability to compress your files in Zip and RAR formats. It makes it easy for you to back up individual files to external storage or the cloud and also lets you sort your files based on all sorts of variables.

Solid Explorer File Manager

Solid Explorer isn't as popular as ES File Explorer, but it's a great alternative. You will love the beautiful user interface on Solid. It offers most of the important features of ES File Explorer, such as cloud support, network share, recycle bin, root explorer, compressed files support, etc. It also helps hide or encrypt files and folders.

Fx file explorer

Another great alternative to ES File Explorer is the FX File Explorer. The file manager app is very similar to ES, both in look and functionality. First, the UI is decent with light material design touches. We especially like the ability to increase/decrease the size of folder previews via pinch-to-zoom. FX File Explorer lets you open most file types and supports features like gestures, visual clipboard, application management, and more.

Amaze file manager

Amaze is a very well designed and easy to use free and open source file manager application. You have the option to view your files and folders as a list or a grid. Basic operations, such as copying and pasting, compressing and extracting from zip files, as well as moving and deleting them, are supported.

File Commander

File Commander is another popular app for Android with over hundred million installs. It features a “Safe Mode” which allows you to hide and encrypt your files and folders and thus make them invisible and a “Storage Analyzer” which shows you exactly what is taking up all the space on your SD card.

You can also access your cloud files such as those in Google Drive, Dropbox, Onedrive, and Amazon Cloud Drive. Just log in and see all your remote files. You can easily download, copy, move, delete or download from there. File Commander also comes with FTP/SFTP support and allows connecting to nearby devices via Bluetooth or WiFi Direct.

The basic application is free. If you want additional, ad-free features, you can upgrade to the Premium version through an in-app purchase.
