1. Have you reloaded in the last 12 months or have you paid your bills regularly?

If you have a contract ad subscription check that you have paid all your bills. Otherwise the operator may have "Suspended" the service pending the regularization of payments. In case, on the other hand, you have a card rechargeable make sure you have done at least one top-up in the last year. In fact, all operators (TIM, Vodafone, Wind, Tre) can deactivate the SIM cards that have not recharged for at least 12 months. Log into your customer area or go to a phone shop as soon as possible to check that your phone number is still active.

2. Is your SIM card inserted correctly?

If your SIM card is missing or not inserted correctly then it can cause this problem. In fact, telephones without a card inserted can only make emergency calls (police, ambulance ..). You will then need to check that the SIM card is properly inserted in the tray, with the gold contacts facing down. Eventually extract and put the card back in its place.

The tray to insert the SIM card is usually located near the battery or in an ejected slot on the side of the phone. If you don't know where the SIM is in your device, look for the documentation for your device.

3. SIM card damaged or demagnetized?

Try inserting any other SIM card into the phone to check if the original SIM is faulty. In fact, the SIM may have demagnetized and in this case you can request a replacement SIM from your operator which is issued immediately at a cost ranging from 5 to 10 euros.

4. Did you restart your phone?

If you haven't tried to turn off your phone yet, do so. Turn it off and let it sit for a few seconds before turning it back on.

5. Is there a service outage?

Sometimes there may be a problem with the carrier's network causing the outage. In these cases, in fact, in the absence of a signal, the telephone displays the message “Emergency calls only”. Contact your operator or go to the forums or facebook pages for assistance to see if the problem is common to others or is isolated.

6. Is there coverage in your area?

If you are in an area where the telephone signal of your operator does not arrive then the message "No service" and "Emergency calls only" is displayed precisely because it cannot connect to any network. Try to do a scan e search for networks by going to Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators.

Also make sure to activate the Network mode option in 4G / 3G / 2G (automatic connection) so that you have more possibilities to connect to the network even in GSM. Eventually also try to set the 3G / 2G option (excluding 4G). Finally, check if you have internet connection available .. it could happen that there is a data connection and that item is missing.

7. Factory reset

If you've tried all of the above tips and still give you the problem "Emergency calls onlyThen try to do a factory reset. A factory reset erases all data from the phone memory. So make sure all data has been saved before proceeding with this solution.
