Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon & Blade of Light - How to move and attack

How to move

Starting Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon & Blade of Light for the very first time, you can expect a long cutscene followed by a tutorial that shows you all the basics to get started. The early 90s were a very different time and that's not the way it is. Instead, you get a short conversation that basically boils down to "bad things, go stop them." But how do you actually stop these infamous villains?

Scrolling the battlefield is easy. You can do this with the D-Pad or the analog stick. All of your troops are displayed in blue, with enemies in red. But your troop selection doesn't show the usual range of motion adopted by future franchise entries. In fact, it may seem like you haven't done anything at all, but here's how to get moving.

Highlight the troop you want to use and then select it with A. Now use the D-Pad or analog stick to choose where to move them. The cursor stops when you reach the edge of their range of motion. Select the location and choose the action to take, which will usually be to wait or equip another weapon. And if you want to start dealing damage, keep reading to see how to attack in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon & Blade of Light.

How to attack

All of the above is the first step and all you need to do to attack is make sure the enemy is within range of the attacker. For swords and other melee weapons, you will need to be adjacent to the enemy. Bows have more range, so test it by choosing a location and seeing if the attack is available as one of the actions. And this is how to move and attack in Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon & Blade of Light.
