How to download free Nintendo Switch games

With your Nintendo account linked to your Switch, you are now ready to download games from the console's eShop. Go to the Switch's main menu, click on the Nintendo eShop icon (the orange-bordered shopping bag) and select the account you want to use to access the store.

If this is the first time you log in, you will have to re-enter your Nintendo Account password, so check the Skip this step from now on (so you don't have to do it every time you log in), press the Enter button, enter your Nintendo Account password and press the OK button to log in.

Once you're in Nintendo eShop, you can find free download games by clicking Search in the left sidebar, then the Price button, scroll to the bottom of the next screen, and then click Free Download. Next, click Show more (bottom right) and you'll see the full list of items available for free download.

Almost there: now you just have to find the free game that interests you among those available in the Nintendo Store and click on its title to display its description. Next, click on the free download button twice in a row, then close and that's it.

The title will download instantly and you can follow the download directly from the Switch's main menu. Once the download is complete, you can launch the game by clicking on its cover image.

In addition to free games, Nintendo eShop also offers demos of paid titles. To get a free demo of a paid title, simply select the paid title in the Nintendo eShop, click the demo button and respond to the OK prompt that appears on the screen. The demo will appear in the Switch main menu, just like the full games you download from Nintendo eShop.

Note: If you want to delete a game you previously downloaded from Nintendo eShop, go to Switch settings (click the gear icon in the main menu), select Data Management in the left sidebar, select Software, select the game you want to delete, and click Delete Software, then click Delete and OK.
