Halo Reach allows you to download custom maps, but there is no official interface. To do so, you need to make use of other users' file sharing, which makes available maps and multiplayer modes created ad hoc.

How to download maps Halo Reach using file sharing

To find a map, you need to know the gamertag of a person who owns it in their file share. This can be anyone, either the creator of the map or a random person who has decided to download it and then store it along with their other favourite maps. You can find the map creator's gamertag using Bungie's old file search website. Keep in mind, however, that map creators may no longer have maps in their file share, but an attempt costs nothing.

As a complementary resource, you can use this spreadsheet, where community members list the maps and custom modes they know about, as well as information about who created them and who currently owns them.

Once you know the gamertag of someone who has your favourite map in their file share, all you have to do is start the game and click on the head icon in the top right corner, then click on your gamertag. Select the "Find Player" option. Enter his gamertag in the box that pops up (don't leave out uppercase letters). Once his profile is displayed, the second option from the top will be "File sharing". Choose that one, then click on the icon that shows you the map variants, the one on the right. Press the "Select" button under the big icon and you will get a list of all the shared files.

Select the one you want, then click the "Download" button below the image in the middle of the screen. The game will notify you when the download is complete. Now all you have to do is go to the custom multiplayer menu and play the game.
