Preliminary information
Prima di enter the live tutorial, walking to spiegare how to activate Word, there is some preliminary information about it that you need to know.
First, keep in mind that Word is software primarily distributed as part of the Microsoft Office package: a suite for productivity paid available more versions. Today, however, it is possible to download it individually without necessarily purchasing the rest of the suite.

- Office Home & Student - it is the "classic" version of Office for Windows and macOS with a one-off payment, equal to 149 euros, and updates only for the purchased release. There are no free trials.
- Word per Windows 10 - is the variant of Word available as a stand-alone application for Windows 10. It can be downloaded directly from the Microsoft Store and to use it you must subscribe to a Microsoft 365 plan or you must proceed with the purchase of the single program at the price of 135 euros.
- Word via macOS - Word can also be downloaded as a standalone application from the macOS Mac App Store. Its download is free, but a Microsoft 365 plan is required to use it. There is no purchase of the single application.
- Word for smartphones and tablets - Word is also available as an app for Android and iOS / iPadOS devices and can be used for free on all devices with dimensions equal to or smaller than 10.1 ″. To take advantage of some advanced features and to use the app on devices larger than 10.1 ″, however, you need to subscribe to the aforementioned Microsoft 365 plan.
How to activate Word on the PC
At this point, I'd say you're finally ready to take action and go find out how to activate Word on PC. Below, therefore, you will find explained how to activate the program on both Windows and macOS through the subscription to Microsoft 365, purchasing the suite in its "classic" version (with a one-off payment) and how to proceed with respect to the versions stand-alone program.
How to activate Word with Microsoft 365
If you are interested in understanding how to activate Word using the subscription to Microsoft 365, the first thing you need to do is to start the browser you usually use to surf the Net from your computer (eg. Chrome) and visit the appropriate section of the Microsoft website.
Next, choose the Microsoft 365 plan you want to subscribe from among those proposed and press the relevant button Buy it now. As I told you before, the only plan that can be tried for free for one month is Microsoft 365 Family, so you can possibly use it for activate Word for freeby selecting the relevant link: Try free for 1 month.
Using the new page that is shown to you at this point, log in to yours Microsoft account (if you don't have one yet, you can read my guide on the subject and fix it right away), then click on the button It starts now! Add a payment method which is on the left and add a valid payment method, choosing between credit card or prepaid card or PayPal.
Next, if you haven't given Microsoft your address yet, select the link Add profile address, fill in the fields visible on the screen providing the required data and click on the button Save. At this point, click on the button Subscribe and, on the page that opens, select the link Install Office, then start the Office download by pressing the button Install visible on the additional page that appears on the screen.
Once the Office download process is complete, open the .exe file ottenuto e, nella finestra che vedi will share your desktop, click on the button Yes, then waits for all the components necessary to install Word and the other programs part of the suite to be downloaded from the Internet.

How to activate Word with Microsoft Office
If you want to activate Word but don't want to subscribe to Microsoft 365, you can purchase the classic version of the suite with a one-time payment: Office Home & Student.
You can purchase the packaged variant, i.e. on physical media, online and in physical electronics stores. To install, just insert the diskette in the CD / DVD drive connected to your computer, follow the setup wizard and type the product key (an identification code consisting of 25 alphanumeric characters), which is essential for activating the software and which is found in the sales package.
Alternatively, you can download Office Home & Student from the Microsoft website. To do this, open the browser that you generally use to surf the net from your computer (eg. Chrome), visit the appropriate section of the Microsoft website and click on the button Buy it now.
In the new page that appears, click on the button Complete transaction which is on the right and log in with yours Microsoft account (if necessary), then choose the payment method you intend to use, including credit or debit card or PayPal, press the button Select and enter the information you are asked for. If necessary, also provide details about yours address. Finally, click on the button Buy it now located on the right.
Then proceed with the download of the suite, selecting the dedicated link that is provided to you on the screen or using the one you received in email. Once the download is complete, install Office, following the instructions I gave you in the previous step.
How to activate Word on Windows 10
Do you want activate Word on Windows 10? In that case, you can get the program from the Microsoft Store, starting the browser that you usually use to surf the Net from your PC and by visiting the relevant section dedicated to the program.
Subsequently, if you prefer to activate Word by subscribing to Microsoft 365, click on the button Up to 6 users or on that For 1 user, depending on the plan you intend to subscribe, then follow the instructions I gave you in the chapter on activation with Microsoft 365 to finalize the installation and activation procedure.
If, on the other hand, you have chosen to purchase the standalone version of Word, click on the button Buy it now located at the top right, click on the button Complete transaction, login with yours Microsoft account (if necessary) and finalizes the purchase by providing a payment method valid.
Later, you can proceed with the download and installation of the program by opening the Microsoft Store on your computer, by clicking on thededicated icon (Quella with the bag and the Microsoft logo) that you find on taskbarby clicking on the symbol magnifying glass at the top right, typing “word” in the search field that appears, selecting the relevant suggestion from the list and then the buttons Install e starts.
Once the Word window appears on the Windows 10 desktop, to be able to activate it, type your Microsoft account data, click the button Agree and start Word, in order to finally start using it.
How to activate Word on Mac
Possiedi a Mac and would you like to know how to activate Word in that case? I'll explain immediately how to proceed. In practice, you have to follow the same procedure that I have already explained to you in detail in the chapter on activation through Microsoft 365. The procedure for downloading and activating the program is in fact the same as that already seen for Windows.
The only substantial difference lies in the fact that, in this case, the file for installing the suite obtained at the end of the download is a package .pkg. Once you have obtained the file in question, just start it and follow the suggested wizard to install the suite. Therefore, in the window that appears you have to click on the buttons Continue (twice in a row) e Accept, indicate the destination disk, click the buttons Continue e Install and, using the appropriate text field, type the administration password from the Mac.
Word for Mac can also be downloaded in a stand-alone version from Mac App Store, the download of which is free, but to use it you need to subscribe to Microsoft 365. To get this version of Word, visit the relevant section of the Mac App Store, click on the button View in the Mac App Store you see on the screen (if necessary) and then start the download of the application by pressing the button Get, quindi quello Install and typing the password dell'ID Apple or using il touch ID (if requested).
Next, click the button apri appeared in the Mac App Store window or select theprogram icon which has just been added to Launchpad. Once the software window appears, log in to yours Microsoft account, so you can activate and start using Word.
How to activate Word on smartphones and tablets
Well yes, it is possible too use Word on smartphones and tablets. The famous word processing tool, in fact, is also available for Android e iOS / iPadOS. The download is done individually and, what's more, it is free and it is not mandatory to subscribe to Microsoft 365. In fact, as I had already anticipated, the app can be used at no cost, unless a device with dimensions greater than 10.1 ″ or if it is necessary to use some additional functions reserved for those who have a subscription.
That said, to download Word on your device, if you are using Android, go to the relevant section of the Play Store and press the button Install (if you have a smartphone without Play Store, you can download it from an alternative store). If you are using iOS / iPadOS, visit the relevant section of the App Store instead, tap the button Get, by your complaint Install and authorize the download by Face ID, touch ID o password dell'ID Apple. Then, start the application by touching the relative icon that has been added to the home screen.
Once you see the main screen of the app, go ahead and activate it, following the simple one initial configuration procedure that is proposed to you, granting any permits required to allow Word to access files on your device, deciding whether to enable the notifications or not and logging into yours Microsoft account. Once this is done, you can start using the app.
