In the window that opens, click on the icon viewing, put the check mark next to the item Object anchors And that's it. To save your preferences just close the Word preferences window.

When the operation is complete, open the Word file in which you want to anchor the images or create a new document and insert the photos to be anchored in it by clicking on the button Image contained in the card Inserisci of the program.

If you use a Mac, you can insert images into the document using the Browser photo, i.e. the panel that allows you to browse the Photo and Photo Booth libraries (in this case, the images must be selected and dragged into Word), or using the panel Image from file, to normally select the photos located on your computer (for example in the “Pictures” or “Documents” folder).

Now the steps to follow are common on Windows and macOS. For anchor a picture in Word, select the latter with the mouse, click on the tab Size and use the menu Location (located at the top right) to choose a position on the worksheet in which to align the photo (ex. Position in the middle of the center with framed text).

You can also specify the position of the elements to be anchored more precisely and prevent modification of the anchor points set in the document. All you have to do is right-click on an image and select the items Wrap Text> More Layout Options give the menu to compare.

In the window that opens, select the tab Location, use the fields Absolute position related to sections Horizontal e Vertical to specify where in the document to place images (eg. 0,01 cm to the right of column / margin / page etc. for horizontal placement e 0,01 cm under paragraph / line / margin etc. for vertical positioning) and put the check mark next to the item Lock anchor to prevent modification of the anchor points.

Do you want to anchor your photo to a paragraph, so that it “follows” the text in case of displacement? Nothing easier: do it click destroy on the image of your interest, go to the menu Wrap text that appears on the screen and choose one of the available options from In line with the text, Framed, Close, Within, Over and under, Behind the text e In front of the text.

If you use a Windows PC, you can also access the same menu by clicking on the icon Layout options (The Horseshoe) that appears next to the photo after selecting it with the mouse.

Obviously, in case of second thoughts you can "free" the position of your images by returning to the menus that I have just pointed out to you and removing the check from all the options relating to anchoring (eg. Lock anchor). Easier to do than to say!

Finally, if you want to know how to anchor caption to Word image, what you need to do is select both items and after that, right click on them. In the context menu, choose the item Group, so as to lock them into a single object. For captions I recommend the use of text boxes, which I told you about in this tutorial of mine.

If you prefer, you can also anchor an image in Word using the tables. By creating a table consisting of 1 cell, in fact, you can create a "fixed" box in which to insert your photo and prevent it from being moved in case of deletion or displacement of the surrounding text.

To put this “trick” into practice, go to the point on the sheet where you want to insert the table, select the tab Inserisciclick on your button Table located at the top left and select the option Table 1 × 1 from the menu that opens (you have to select only one square).

At this point, click on the table you just created, select the tab again Inserisci Word and presses the button Images to choose the image to insert in your document.

After this step too, resize image e table using the appropriate indicators that appear at their edges (after clicking on them). Then select the tab layout Word and click on the button Property which is located at the top left.

The window for adjusting the table properties will open. Make sure, therefore, that the card is selected Table, scegli l 'alignment you want to set up the table by clicking on a button between To the left, Al centro e To the right, and then click the button Close on the Text arrangement.

Once this is done, remove the check mark from the item Move with text and click on the button OK twice in succession to save the changes.

Mission accomplished! Now you have an image "pinned" to a specific page of your document thanks to the creation of a table. This means that even if you delete, move or change the position of the text on the page, the photo will not change position. Happy?

To remove the black border from the table and thus give the impression that the image is not contained in it, click in the table, select the tab Planning that appeared at the top right and set the option No border in the two dominated drop-down menus Bordi (in alto to destra).

Anchor a picture in Word Online

How to anchor a picture in Word

Even on Word Online it is possible to anchor an image in the document but, unlike what we saw in the previous chapters relating to the Word desktop software, the available options are very limited.

In fact, the only operation you can do is indicate how the image should be arranged on the text. Therefore, click on the image present in the Word document and select the tab Image up.

At this point, press the button Text arrangement located in the top left bar and choose one of the options that are shown to you in the menu. You can choose between In line with the text, Framed on the left, Right framed, Behind the text, In front of the text.

As for the use of a table to anchor the image to a text, unfortunately on Word Online you do not have the possibility to perform this operation, as it lacks the appropriate features.

Anchor an image in Word for smartphones and tablets

Word is also available as an app for Android (including devices without Play Store) and iOS / iPadOS, it can be used for free on all devices with a screen size up to 10.1 ″ (otherwise it requires a subscription Microsoft 365), however it does not allow you to anchor images like the desktop version of the program.

The only options available, which could be somehow useful for positioning the images, are those to set the predisposition of the same with respect to the text.

Going into more detail, what you can do is select an image and decide whether to place it in line with the text, whether to frame it in the text, display it behind the text, in front of the text, etc.

To take advantage of this feature, start the Word app on your smartphone or tablet, open the document you want to edit (or create a new one) and tap on the image to place. At this point, if you are using a smartphone, press the button ... located at the bottom right, select the item Image from the drop-down menu that appears at the bottom left and choose one of the options available in Wrap text.

If you are using a tablet, on the other hand, tap on the photo to place, select the tab Image at the top and choose one of the options available in the menu Wrap text, for example In line with the text, Framed, Within, Behind the text o In front of the text.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to “pin” a photo to a specific point on the page or create frozen tables, as explained above.
