Aerodactyl is an available raid Pokémon that you can defeat and capture Pokémon Go in. It is traditionally a three-star raid, meaning that most higher level trainers, with the right Pokémon, can destroy it by themselves. While it's helpful to have an extra friend or two to take him down, you should be able to defeat him. You can randomly find an Aerodactyl raid in any of the Gyms available in the game, and if a Three Star Raid Egg is about to hatch if you have a good chance of it spawning. He can potentially be a Shiny Aerodactyl.
Aerodactyl weaknesses
Aerodactyl is a Flying and Boulder-type Pokémon, making it weak to Electric, Ice, Boulder, Steel, and Water-type attacks. It is resistant to Bug, Fire, Flying, Ground, Normal and Poison type attacks, which you must stay away from.
Pokémon to counter Aerodactyl
The best Pokémon you want to use against Aerodactyl in the raid are Metagross, Swampert, and Rhyperior.
Metagross is a great Steel and Psychic type to use in the raid. He has several Steel-type attacks that he can use against him and can reach a max CP of 3, Attack of 791, Defense of 257, and Stamina of 228. You want you to know the punch and the punch. flash cannon or meteor mash to use against Aerodactyl. Other charge moves are helpful, but not in this raid.
The second choice is the Powerhouse PvP Swampert, the Ground and Water-type Pokémon. It's a favorite for most fight league coaches to use, so many players should go out of their way to try and add a Swampert to their squad. It has max CP of 2, attack of 974, defense of 208, and stamina of 175. You want to use one that knows the water pistol and surfing, muddy water, or hydro cannon. Any of these three load moves should be an appropriate match against Aerodactyl.
The last optimal choice is Rhyperior, the Rock and Ground-type Pokémon. Although he exhibits a variety of weaknesses, he should be a superb choice to use in the raid. It has a max CP of 3, attack of 733, defense of 241, and stamina of 190. It is a carefully calculated choice to use in battle league, but perfect for raid battles. You want to use one that knows the snap and the rock demolisher or the stone edge.
While these three choices are great options against Aerodactyl, they're not the only ones. You can also use Empoleon, Electivire, Raikou, Feraligatr, Mamoswine, Excadrill, Kingler, Luxray, Galarian Darmanitan, and Tyranitar. When attempting to take on Aerodactyl, you need to make sure that you are using a variety of Pokémon that cover its weaknesses so that every attack against it counts. Once you've defeated him, you can expect to try and capture him with a variety of top-notch bullets that you'll receive at the end of the raid depending on your performance. The Aerodactyl you catch at the end will have a CP of 1 to 515, or 1 to 590 if the weather improves.
