For the majority of Minecraft items, there is a crafting recipe attached. Almost any usable item can be crafted on a crafting table or melted in a furnace. However, a saddle is one of the few items that can't, and many players aren't sure where to find one.
The saddle in Minecraft does exactly what you think it does: lets you ride on the back of an animal. With such a lack of long-range transport items, a saddle is a desired piece of equipment.
So how do you secure one? There are three different ways which all involve a little luck.
1. Search for chests in a dungeon
This is perhaps the easiest way to find a saddle. While stumbling across a dungeon requires luck, there are tons strewn across the procedurally generated map.
Dungeons can be found underground in any biome, but require excavation. You'll know you've found one when you see a monster spawning cage in the middle of a cobblestone room. There will also be chests around the monster spawn.
In these chests you will find a saddle. However, not all dungeon chests contain a saddle, so you will need to be lucky.
2. Fish one out of the ocean
Another method based on chance, this does not involve too many moving parts. Simply throw your fishing line into a body of water and wait for your float to pass underwater.
Once you see the bobber disappear, turn in the line. If you're lucky, a saddle will surface. There is nothing more you can do to increase your odds, so patience is the key to this method.
3. Look for chests in the Nether Fortress
Similar to the dungeon method, any fortress in the Nether houses chests that can hold a saddle. Enter through your Nether portal or build one if you haven't already and wander around in search of a fortress.
Strongholds are hard to miss, as they stick out like a sore thumb into the Nether. Once you find one, go inside and start looking for chests. If luck is on your side, a saddle will be waiting for you in one of them.
