Adventure rank in Genshin Impact will increase if you gain experience by playing the game, exploring the world, and completing adventures. Some important aspects of the game, like the gacha mechanics and the ability to play in multiplayer, are actually locked behind some adventure ranks, so you'll want to rank it as quickly as possible.
There are many ways to increase your Adventure Rank:

When you first start playing the game, the best way to earn an Adventure Rank is to simply be aware of your surroundings. Activate any Warp Stones you find, open any chests you come across, and fully explore the areas of the map you pass through.
Another great way to earn Adventure XP is Daily Quests, known as Commission Quests. These can be found in your quests menu on the fourth tab, but they will only be unlocked after your Adventure Rank 12.
