How to Repair iPhone Dropped in Water?

How to Repair iPhone Dropped in Water? If you carry your iPhone with you always, every day and everywhere, it is very likely that it can fall to the ground in a puddle of water, or in the swimming pool, or in the sink of your kitchen. In these cases, the iPhone is damaged when dropped into water. What should be done to minimize water damage in iPhone and save important data from it?

Apple Support might be the first thing that comes to mind to contact. However, even Apple won't help too as liquid damage is not covered under warranty! It seems that the time has come to give some tips on how to fix the iPhone dropped into water problem and limit the damage.

How to fix iPhone dropped in water and recover data

After your iPhone is damaged by water or other liquids, you should definitely not try to turn on the device. This is the main cause that causes a device to “die” after exposure to liquids. If you turn on the device while it still has moisture / liquid in it, it could easily short-circuit and burn the iPhone motherboard. The correct things to do are:

1. Take the iPhone out of the water and dab as much liquid as possible from the outside of the phone.
2. Remove the two screws at the bottom of the iPhone (for iPhone 5S / 5C / 5 / 4S / 4) with a screwdriver. Don't have any screwdriver? You can go directly to step 5.
3. Remove the battery, motherboard, and other components exposed to the liquid.
4. Clean the motherboard and other components with 99% alcohol and a lint-free microfiber. Be sure to carefully clean the connectors on the motherboard and accessories to remove the corrosive properties of the liquid.
5. Place the motherboard and other components inside a closed container with silica gel for 24-48 hours. Place the whole phone in the silica gel if you can't remove the back to get to the components.

Finally, you can put the iPhone back together, and then turn on the iPhone to see if it works. If the iPhone turns on but the LCD is cloudy then the LCD will need to be replaced.

Even these steps are likely not going to help you bring your iPhone to life. In this case you can at least try to recover the iPhone data by saving it on your computer using a program such as FoneLab – iPhone Data Recovery. This software requires only a few mouse clicks to extract the data (photos, contacts, sms, videos, notes, etc ...) from the iPhone memory and then save them on your PC or Mac.
