How to Turn an Android Mobile Phone into a WiFi Repeater

If we have a cellphone that we no longer use, we can give it a new life by transforming it into a WiFi repeater. Sharing the Internet is something that is done in a very simple way from any mobile terminal since what smartphones do is connect with each other by extracting data from the one that acts as the main one.

But all this happens through the data of the SIM card because when we try to share the WiFi, while we ourselves are connected to a network of this type, Android automatically disconnects us and begins to collect data.

That is why today we will see how we can make sure that they have an old cell phone that we no longer use can serve us as a signal repeater from what we receive from the router that the operator with whom we have contracted the Internet has put us. It's simpler than you expect, although we have to use third-party apps.

The advantages of having an old WiFi cellphone

The truth is that carrying out the task of using a cell phone that we don't use as a repeater has many advantages that we find really useful.

Making our mobile phone repeat the wifi signal of our main router can help us and be an advantage in certain uses such as:

  • Expand coverage: this is the most obvious use and is that in this way we can get the Wi-Fi signal to reach the areas of the house with greater strength where unfortunately the power is not what it should be. In this way we will get the signal all the same and we can enjoy our network in unison in all the rooms.
  • One device: If you are on a network that only supports one connected device at a time, this may be the best solution to connect as many as you need, knowing what the smartphone limit is.
  • Wi-Fi 5GHz: This is not very normal, but it may be that your router only outputs 5 GHz, well, using your mobile you can also connect devices in the 2.4 GHz band.

WiFi repeaters are easy to install, help eliminate dead spots and increase the speed of your current internet connection without breaking the bank.

Which apps can help us?

As we have already told you in the previous lines, we have no way to make the mobile phone a WiFi repeater in Android natively, since when we give it to it to share the network, it automatically disconnects the WiFi and starts broadcasting, but with the data of the SIM card. Therefore, it is not what we are looking for.

The application we will use is called WiFi repeater and it is a free app that works with mobile phones with Android 4.2.2 onwards.

It is very easy to use, which is why we chose it and also it does not require the smartphone to be rooted, so it becomes even more functional.

  • Once the app is downloaded and installed WiFi repeater, we open it.
  • He will ask us to grant you the location permissions which is something we have to do because if not, it won't work.
  • We touch the icon of the WiFi network, which will cause the system to wake up. If you get two green clicks below, everything works.
  • We will have a QR Code at the top with the mobile that we want to absorb the connection. If this smartphone doesn't have this feature, we need to continue.
  • On the mobile phone or device that we are going to connect to our new repeater, we must access the WiFi and then select the connection marked by the WiFi repeater.
  • We have to get in Advanced Settings and change the proxy a manually then put the Nome host proxy which marks the app (IP address), changes the porta proxy (HTTP port) and then enter the file password for the network which says the WiFi Repeater application.
  • Once this is done, we click To maintain and then we click on the connection so that after a few seconds it tells us that we are connected.

This is the best way there is currently, knowing that there are multiple applications that do this, to turn that cell phone we have at home that we no longer use into a WiFi repeater device.
