How lateral

Technically it is possible to side the ball on any offensive play, as sometimes crazy turn plays can be taken out by having a wide receiver laterally on the ball after catching a wide receiver next to them. . However, these are the exceptions that very rarely work, as it usually ends in a escapement. Instead, we're going to focus on how to play sideways on designed games where it can be really useful.

For starters, you're going to want to choose some sort of play option from the menu that isn't a play option. The triple option is a possibility here along with a number of others. Most of them only have one player that you can play sideways on, but there are two with two.

What you need to do is break the ball first and then start launching in the direction you want to run while keeping an eye out for the specified defender which will be highlighted when you hold R2 down to see the play before the snap. What you will watch out for is if this defender collides with the QB or the RB. If they're chasing the QB, what you want to do is press L1 to sideways the ball and hopefully find some free space to run with the RB. In cases where there are two choices to laterate the ball on the stroke, they will have icons specifying what to press, which will be L1 or R1.

With the laterals you have to be extremely careful because they can be very dangerous. If you do a full-back with the ball with another play between you and the ball carrier, it will rebound and cause a fumble. Sometimes the angle can be wrong and groped, so you probably won't want to rely on the laterals all the time.
