OTOY announced the launch of Octane X on the Mac App Store, bringing the OctaneRender GPU rendering platform into the Apple ecosystem workflow.
The latest version of Octane X takes full advantage of using Apple's Metal API. Octane X offers pixel parity with OctaneRender 2020 and later, making cinematic art rendering available on macOS for the first time.
The new Octane X app is available for free download on the Mac App Store and includes all the features of Octane X Enterprise for Mac with macOS Big Sur, along with two exclusive offers: Octane X Prime and Enterprise subscriptions, both free for one year. , with full access to the Octane X integration plug-in suite, including Cinema4D, SketchUp, Maya, Houdini, Blender, Modo, Nuke, Unreal Engine, and Unity.
MacBook Pro, iMac Pro, and Mac Pro users will have access to one free year of Octane X Enterprise, which includes RNDR, the first GPU rendering platform to use distributed blockchain.
All other Macs, including models with the proprietary Apple M1 chipset and those with an integrated graphics card from AMD or Intel and running macOS Big Sur 11.1 and later, will have one year of access to Octane X Prime, which includes the access to all Octane X DCC integrations.
Octane X features for macOS Metal
• Completely rewritten mesh geometry engine to optimize performance for AMD GPUs.
• Near perfect linear render rate scaling with multiple GPU configurations, including eGPUs connected via Thunderbolt 3.
• Octane X RNDR / Mac Pro server as render node: taking advantage of the dual 20 Gb / s connection (the Mac Pro is close to the interconnect speeds of InfiniBand) and Octane X on Mac Pro will support up to 400 GPUs using the rendering of net.
