This year's Pokémon Go holiday event will officially begin in your area when it hits at 12 p.m. on December 24. When that happens, the event will kick off and you expect to have plenty of stuff to do with your Pokémon this year, as well as the Buddy adventure that started last week.
Field research and awards
Despite the holidays, the teacher still needs your help with a handful of tasks. You will have until January 1 at 23:59 p.m. to complete them, so you should have a little over a week.
- Catch five Cadoizo and Blizzi - Reward: Beanie Pikachu Encounter
- Catch five Ice-type Pokémon - Reward: Blizzi Encounter
- Catch 10 Ice-type Pokémon - Reward: 1 Stardust
- Take five Snapshots of Ice-type Pokémon - Reward: encounter with Polarhume
Benefits of the holiday event
While you will be given a to-do list from the Professor, everyone should also have access to a variety of perks during the event. They're all date-based, so if you're looking for something in particular, make sure your dates line up and plan your Pokémon GO time accordingly.
- December 24 to 25: Double captures and Candy transfers
- December 26 to 27: Double Stardust take
- December 28-29: Double Capture XP
- December 30 to January 1: egg hatch distance divided by two
Holiday Pokémon
When you are outside to complete these tasks and receive these useful perks, you are also more likely to encounter Ice-type Pokémon. Additionally, you might end up with holiday-based Pokémon.
- Special stantlers with bells wrapped around their necks
- Pichu with a holiday hat on his head
- Pikachu's with a holiday hat on his head
- Raichu's with a holiday hat on his head
All of these are available in their brilliant form. Additionally, Blizzi and Blizzaroi now have a shiny in-game shape, which changes their arms from green to blue.
