Redshift arrives on macOS with native support for Apple Silicon

Maxon has released a version of its Redshift rendering software for macOS, allowing those who work in 3D to use the application on their Macs with Apple Silicon (M1).

Redshift is a 3D rendering tool used to create 3D scenes, images and animations. Although the tool has been available for Windows and Linux for some time, Maxon has just announced that it has ported the software to macOS.

The initial release includes support for Apple's M1 and the Metal API for graphics. It is a universal app, valid for use on Macs with Intel.

In addition to benefiting Mac artists by not having to switch between platforms and tenderizers, Maxon says the M1 architecture offers significant improvements in workflow efficiency.

In addition to the graphics on the M1, the software is compatible with the GPUs included in many Macs, as well as external eGPUs in Macs with Intel, especially the later "Navi" or "Vega" GPUs with 8 GB of VRAM or more. The list of supported AMD GPUs is:

    • Radeon Pro Vega 16/20/48/56/64
    • Radeon Pro 5500M/5600M/5500XT/5700/5700XT /
    • Radeon Pro Vega II / Vega II Duo
    • Radeon Pro W5500X / W5700X
    • Radeon Pro WX9100
    • Radeon VII
    • Radeon RX 5500/5500XT/5600XT/5700/5700XT /

Redshift costs $ 500 per locked node license, $ 600 per 'floating' license, or as part of a subscription license with Cinema 4D for $ 983,88 per year.
