Spotify prohibits exporting its playlists to other platforms

There is a lot of talk about Apple and its monopolistic practices, which prevent the development of competition and force its users to stay within its ecosystem.

One of Apple's critical applications for this alleged unfair competition is Spotify, which has also been integrated into CAF (Coalition for Application Justice - you can read it in the Fortnite article), a non-profit organization that promotes the "liberation" of tyranny of the App Stores and commissions for their use.

However, in recent days, Spotify has communicated to developers of utilities that allow you to export playlist from one platform in order to import them into another, that this practice violates its Terms and Conditions and that maintaining this functionality implies the termination of the developer license on Spotify.

Spotify prohibits exporting its playlists to other platforms

«The Spotify development platform team has contacted us and informed us that we must eliminate the ability to transfer content from their service to another competing service, or they will block our access to the API for violating the TOS [Terms of Service], SongShift announced on his blog.

"Even if this is not the news we wanted to give, we respect their decision," they continue to say. In the next version of SongShift, v5.1.2, it will no longer be possible to transfer from Spotify. “This update is one that hurts us for the release. We look forward to continuing to help everyone with their music transfer needs. "

Spotify hasn't said anything publicly yet, and it's unclear why - right now - it has chosen this moment to enforce its contractual terms, since its developer agreement prohibits the transfer of content from Spotify since at least 2018. "Not transfer content from Spotify… to other music services that compete with Spotify or the Spotify service, «states the Spotify development agreement.

On the other hand, Spotify has no problem with these same applications transferring content from competing applications to your application or service. In our article on the state of the music market in 2020 you can see how Apple Music is approaching Spotify.
