- iPhone users using the instant messaging application Telegram they will have noticed that from 24 March 2018 the program is not receiving any kind of update. While Telegram X, basically a version faster, leaner and easier to use, it was even removed from the App Store.
Many users have wondered the reason for this blocking of updates for Telegram on iPhone. The answer is not in the incompatibility between the application and which iOS operating system update but it is in nature policy. At least this is the explanation given by Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram and for some time on a collision course with the Russian government. According to Durov, the updates for iOS 11.4 would be ready for some time, but they were not allowed to release them. This is mainly due to the strained relationship between Durov and the Russian government, after Telegram's CEO refused to provide the keys to decrypt your users' conversations.
The struggle between Telegram and Russia
The standoff between Telegram and Russia has resulted to the "ban" of the application on Russian territory and Moscow politicians have asked Apple itself to remove the service from its App Store. There are no answers from Cupertino on the matter but it is not clear why the removal of Telegram and Telegram X for Russian users has led to the stop of updates for the iPhone users around the world. In Europe the problem is twofold. Not only has Telegram not been able to update its functions for European customers with an iPhone, but it has not even been able to adapt to the provisions of the famous GDPR. This means that the app in Europe has become punishable due to lack of privacy adjustments and to avoid Telegram fines. he might even think about closing the messaging app in Europe altogether, at least for a while. At the moment the situation is very complex, not least because, except for Durov, no one else has spoken. IPhone users who are passionate about Telegram, however, have been asking Apple for precise explanations for several weeks, explanations that are slow in coming.
