You can only breed a tame boar. Taming wild boars is pretty straightforward, although the game doesn't really explain anything about how this process works. Even the Valheim Wiki won't help you (yet) thanks to this little indie game's sudden explosion in popularity this week. There are still a lot of players out there who don't know, so we're going to share some tips to make taming (and breeding) boars easier.

    How to tame wild boars

Wild boars are (for the most part) docile creatures that live in the Prairies biome - they are a great source of raw meat et leather scraps, important resources that you will need if you plan to survive for long. To tame a boar, you will need to do the following.

    • Taming the Boar - The Basics
      • Drop 10-15 food on the ground for a wild boar to eat.
      • Leave the area. A scared / aggressive boar will not eat the food you leave behind.

Eventually, the boar will eat the food you dropped. This is a pretty boring method, as the wild boar might ignore your food altogether. Here is a better way.

    • Taming the Boar - The Pen Method
      • Build a wooden pen with three sides (or a door) and aggro the boar.
      • Bring it into your pen, then quickly take it out and place the fourth side of the pen or close the door.
      • Now that the boar is trapped, drop 10-15 food in the pen and go.

Wild boars eat three types of food: berries, carrots, and champignons. Try to build your pen with a berry bush inside - the boar will eat in the bush and you will not even need to waste your resources.

      • To spawn, wait until your tamed boars have the hungry status. Feed them and Happy Boars can spawn. Pink hearts will appear if the boars have reproduced successfully.
      • After a while, a " Piggie »Will be born. The baby will eventually grow into an adult wild boar.

You can check the status of a boar by looking at them closely. You will see if they are tame, wild, hungry, or happy.

Make sure your tame boars are inside an enclosure. Feed them to keep them happy, and they might mate well. In addition, do not place your fire near the pens! Wild boars are afraid of fire.

And finally - try to interact with a tame boar. The boar loves you, Indeed.
