What is Minecraft Bedrock Edition?

Developed by Mojang Studios, Minecraft has been out for about a decade and comes in two different versions: Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. The content, updates, and appearance of the two games are virtually identical, but the reality is that they are two different games. In technical terms, Java is encoded in Java, while Bedrock is encoded in C ++. This means that the two games have a completely different user interface and rendering systems.

The original version of Minecraft, available for purchase from the Minecraft website, is called the Java Edition. On the other hand, the Bedrock edition is available on console, mobile and via the official Microsoft store. If you intend to play with your friends, you should make sure that you all have the same version. Here are the significant differences between the two versions.

Modifications

In Java Edition, it's much easier to install, manage, and maintain mods. It's almost impossible to edit in Bedrock Edition, considering how you play on a console or mobile device. In short, there is virtually no limitation for mods for the Java edition, while adding Bedrock is the opposite.

Waiters

Java Edition servers tend to be easier to configure than Bedrock Edition. However, there are more free multiplayer servers to choose from in Bedrock Edition. Keep in mind that if you're playing on a console, you need to make sure that you have internet access, which comes with some form of online subscription fees.

New features

If you are continually looking to test new features in the game, go for the Java edition. The reason is that the developers post weekly content snapshots for gamers to test them effectively. The same cannot be said for the Bedrock Edition, as this process is much more difficult when you are not on a PC. Nevertheless, both editions receive major versions on the same release date.

Cross play

Java Editions players can play with any other Java Edition players, and the same can be said for Bedrock Edition players. However, for Bedrock Edition players, you and your friend can play on any of the different consoles or cell phones, and still be able to play with each other.

The verdict?

If you and your friends only play Mindcraft on PC, like to modify the game easily, and are often keen to try out new features, then go for the Java edition. If you and your friends are planning to play on one of the consoles or on a mobile, you are more of a casual gamer where cross-play is very important to you and modding is not a major priority, then go for it. 'Bedrock edition.
