Check running programs

The first thing to do when this type of problem occurs is to check which programs are on execution on the PC. To do this:

  • Right click on Home
  • Continue your Activity management
  • In the screen that opens, click on Memory in such a way as to sort the programs according to the consumption of main memory
  • Identify the ones that have a high consumption and that are not essential and close them by clicking on End activity

Change the size of the desktop heap

  • Inside the box Data values locate the writing SharedSection (which is followed by three values)
  • Change the second value with 12288 (per i sistemi a 32 bit) or 20480 (per i sistemi a 64 bit)
  • Click on OK e reboot the PC

Increase virtual memory

A possible solution, albeit momentary, is to increase the virtual memory. The virtual memory remains however more slow than the main one, and will not allow you to do your work on the PC in an ideal way. However, it can at least help you to use your PC while waiting for replace main memory.



  • Open File Explorer (click on the yellow folder icon
  • Right-click on What PC, then click Property
  • Within the side screen on the left, click on Advanced system settings
  • Inside the section Performances, click on Settings
  • Inside the screen Performance options Click Change
  • Uncheck on Automatically manage paging file size for all drives
  • Then select the option Custom sizes
