Everything coming to Pokémon Go in August

Everything coming to Pokémon Go in August

Every month a whole slew of new content is added to Pokémon Go, and this month is mostly something to write about due to all the Pokémon Festival rewards weeks. In addition to Magikarp Community Day, there will be three main things to celebrate in August 2020.

New research breakthrough

The Pokémon featured for this month's Research Breakthrough is a good, dark / fighter type, Scraggy. This is a much less acquired Pokémon than the last ones that have been waiting for the Breakthrough reward, as so far it has only been available as a GO battle reward. This will give players who don't favor PVP modes a chance to get that adorable boyfriend.

It's also good to use pinap berries when catching, as you'll eventually need 50 of them to turn him into a Scrafty.

Four new hours of spotlight

There will also be spotlight hours for August with a different Pokémon every Tuesday of the month. This month they present Horsea, Sableye, Venipede and Geodude. Projector hours are from 18:00 p.m. to 19:00 p.m. in your time zone, and the full schedule for August is available here.

Ultra Unlock Theme Weeks

Finally, the most exciting part of August is the Theme Weeks unlocked through July's Pokémon GO Fest. The weeks each start at 13 p.m. on Friday and run from July 31 to August 21. The themes of the week are as follows:

  • Week of the dragon, starring Wild Gible, Deino (shiny now available), and Alolan Exeggutor, with Rayquaza in five-star raids
  • Enigma week, starring Savage Elgyem, Staryu (shining now available) with Deoxys in Five Star Raids
  • Unova week, featuring roggenrola (shiny now available) and four all-new GO Pokémon Unova in the wild: Sewaddle, Cottonee, Emolga and Bouffalant and Genesect in five-star raids

Overall, there will be plenty of ways this month to get new Pokémon, more candy for rarer Pokémon, and a host of new raids to test your skills as a Pokémon trainer.
