If you want to play the BitLife political game, you have to live your life a certain way. Being good looking and smart, both help a lot. At school, make sure you read books, play lots of sports, and take care of yourself. If you were born smart, it's a good idea to make sure you continue to sharpen your mind throughout school and college.
You will also need to make sure that you never have any issues with an authority figure or the law. When you run for mayor, that sort of thing can be used against you by your opponents. If a fight starts, don't fight back. It doesn't matter if you defend yourself or someone else, it will always come back to haunt you further.
As soon as you can, that is, normally after leaving school, you should try to become the principal of the school board. You can find the option to do so in the Policy menu. This is the first step on the political scale and will give you the much-needed experience when you run for mayor. You'll also need some cash to fund the campaign, so make sure you have a decent job as well. You will need to choose which platform is your main concern and then decide how you want to treat your opponent. You can be pretty mean to them during the campaign which could lead to a big win or a crushing loss, so it's best to just treat them right and set a strong tone for the electorate.
While you are the principal of the school board, you will have to make certain decisions. Some will be about politics, while others will be changes to do things that could hurt your career in the long run. Always avoid anything that might look bad to the public, and if you want to be mayor, you should try to make decisions that people will like. After two terms as director of the school board, you will be ready to run for the post of mayor.
You can find it in the Politics menu, but remember that you will need more money for this campaign. You will once again have to face yourself in debates with someone, and they may even ask you a few devious questions, but you better not stoop to their level. There can also be a very active rumor mill, so be prepared to have to stop the rumors in your personal life. Always be prepared to deny rumors, even if they are true.
If you manage to run a successful campaign, you will become mayor and can start charting your next career moves.
