iPhone 11: Apple replaces screens that no longer work for free

Some iPhone 11s suffer from a touch screen problem. After a few months of use, the AMOLED panel of some units no longer responds and refuses to work. Admitting a manufacturing problem, Apple agrees to replace the affected touch screens free of charge. We explain how to find out if you are eligible.

“Apple has determined that a small percentage of iPhone 11 screens may stop responding to touch due to a problem with the display module,” Apple explains on its official website. Display module design flaw has been spotted on manufactured iPhone 11s between November 2021 and May 2021.

On affected devices, the touchscreen no longer responds to user commands. The iPhone is therefore unusable. If you bought your iPhone 11 when it hit the market in September 2021, you shouldn't experience any issues with the AMOLED panel.

Apple launches program to replace failed iPhone 11s

Apple launched a screen replacement program for damaged smartphones. To ensure that their terminal is eligible, the Cupertino company offers users to enter the serial number of their iPhone 11 on this page. As a reminder, you can find the serial number of an iPhone in Settings> General> Information. If you are not able to use the iPhone, you can use the IMEI / MEID number visible on the SIM card holder. Finally, the serial number is also written on the original packaging of the iPhone, on the original receipt or on the invoice.

If your iPhone 11 is eligible, Apple offers to make an appointment at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. To avoid having to travel, the firm also offers users to send their iPhone 11 by post. For that, you have to contact customer service. The replacement program is open for a period of two years, says Apple. Once this period has passed, the screens will no longer be replaced free of charge. If you have already paid Apple to replace the screen of your iPhone 11 eligible for the program, the company undertakes to reimburse you in full.
