Should you buy something new or expensive from Wisp in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

If you're exploring your island at night in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you might just stumble upon Twig. The scared little ghost gets quite the shock when you find him, and pieces of him will shatter and float.

To find the parts, explore the island and prepare your insect net. When you see a floating piece, grab it with the net, then resume crawling. You will need to find five coins in total to make Twig whole again.

When you have all five, go back to where you found Twig and give them to him. He will give you a gift, asking you to choose something new or something expensive. Like the other questions you have been asked in the game so far, there does not appear to be a correct answer. Asking for something new or something expensive just seems to generate a random item with no real way of knowing what it will be. The more expensive will end up worth a few more bells, and the new one will be something you don't own yet.

Other than that, it's impossible to know what you will get.
