Valheim Boar Taming Guide: How to Get Unlimited Leather

How to tame a wild boar in Valheim

Here are the basic steps to tame a boar in Valheim.

  1. Build a pen.
  2. Lead a boar inside the enclosure.
  3. Put food in the pen.
  4. Wait for the boar to eat the food.

If you want to tame some wild boars, the first step is to build an enclosure to keep them. Find a place where you want to keep the boars and close it with a fence. Round post fences are the easiest and cheapest fences you can build at the start of the game, requiring only one wood per fence as long as you have a workbench nearby. The pen does not need to be large, but it should be large enough to hold a few boars. Make sure to leave an opening to attract your first boar inside.

Now that you've set up an enclosure, it's time to find your first boar. Attracting a wild boar to your enclosure can be tricky. You have to approach it and try to make it attack you. Once the boar begins to attack, run to your enclosure while the boar chases you. Once the boar is inside the enclosure, use a fence to completely close the enclosure, then jump.

With the boar trapped inside the enclosure, you can start the taming process. All you have to do to tame a boar is feed it, and it will eat just about anything. Put mushrooms, berries or carrots in the pen and wait for the boar to eat. To drop food, press the Tab key to open your inventory, then drag and drop the item onto the floor. When the boar eats, you will see yellow hearts appearing around the animal. This means that the taming process is working and the wild boar is now domesticated. From then on, all you have to do is feed him regularly to prevent him from starving. Domestic boars will only eat carrots, so make sure you have enough to feed your newly tamed pet.

Now that you have a tamed boar, you can repeat the taming process to add more animals to your collection. If you have two tame boars in the same pen, they will mate and produce more boars which you can then slaughter for leather and meat. It's a simple way to make sure you'll always have a constant flow of food and supplies so you can focus on other Valheim challenges.

Valheim is now available on PC. The game is currently in Early Access on Steam and will remain in Early Access for at least a year.
