Many Steam issues can be caused by a firewall, anti-virus, or a problem with your router or internet connection.
Please use the Troubleshooting Network Connectivity guide to ensure that your network is properly configured for use with Steam.
If you had been wondering why Steam is down for a few minutes every Tuesday, it's usually the maintenance work going on at the backend.
If you receive the network connection error, you may need to restart Steam.
To do this, select Steam > Go Online > Connect to the Internet > Restart Steam.
When you receive the Can't connect to Steam error, you have the option to Retry Connection or Start in Offline Mode.
It's important to remember that Steam is a global service, so there are always users online.
Our peak user load is around 1200 PT (Pacific Time), and our lowest user count is around 2300 PT.
When we have planned downtime, it usually lasts less than an hour.
